You sometimes hear that Aleppo soap is not suitable for sensitive skin. In reality, it all comes down to a single factor: the laurel berry oil content. It determines the soap’s gentleness, its soothing action and its price. Here is how to choose the right percentage for your skin.

Why the laurel percentage changes everything

Olive oil forms the nourishing base of every Aleppo soap. Laurel berry oil brings the purifying, soothing and hypoallergenic properties. The higher its concentration, the more active the soap and the better suited it is to fragile or problem skin. A low-dose soap stays very gentle and economical for daily use; a high-dose soap becomes real care for the most sensitive skin.

At Maison du Laurier, our range spans from 5% to 55% laurel, to cover every need.

The percentage guide, skin type by skin type

3 to 5%: for all skin types

The gentlest and most economical formula. Ideal as daily, moisturising care, for the whole family and skin with no particular need.

12 to 15%: for normal to sensitive skin

A good compromise for everyday washing, with a basic cleansing and antiseptic effect. It suits normal as well as slightly sensitive skin.

20 to 25%: for delicate skin

Richer in laurel, this soap helps avoid redness and irritation. Hypoallergenic, it soothes delicate skin and minor skin issues, while staying suitable for daily use.

35 to 55%: for very sensitive and problem skin

The most concentrated and most soothing. It is recommended for very sensitive, allergic or irritated skin, and for people prone to psoriasis, acne or eczema. It actively soothes dry skin, helps restore the skin’s pH and even works on stubborn dandruff.

How to choose, in practice

First identify your skin type and main need. For family use with no particular concern, stay with a low percentage. As soon as the skin feels tight, turns red or reacts, go higher in laurel. For problem skin such as eczema, psoriasis or acne, aim straight for the top of the range. And as with any new product, test on a small area, and ask a dermatologist in case of a significant skin condition.
